When it came to devastating BP oil spill, Rick Perry’s thoughtful and secular solution was to say “From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented.” I wonder if Rick Perry is one of those things.
Mitt Romney, for many in the mainstream media, is the model of the moderate Republican. But don’t be fooled. There is nothing moderate about the current Republican party.
So now Perry has mysteriously developed some political doubts about the relevance of the debates as a whole in regards to the political well-being of the candidate, as he told Fox’s Bill O’Reilly that agreeing to participate in the debates at all was probably a mistake. Again, in a true anti-Texas fashion of manning up, Perry blames the inner-workings of the debate forum instead of putting the blame where it squarely belongs, which is on his rickety debate performances with him as the sole skipper.
Maybe Perry looks at Romney’s huge polling advantage in Manchester, New Hampshire and has just decided not to take the Granite State seriously. Or, maybe he is auditioning for the opening slot on Dennis Miller’s next stand up tour. Or, maybe he was drunk.
The lack of intellectual curiosity about how things work and an almost pathological pursuit of the lowest common denominator of understanding is frighteningly apparent to anyone with a modicum of awareness. Both have risen almost exponentially over the last few years.
The beautiful thing about OWS is the amount of forgiveness they extended to the officers. They never turned violent toward them. The people themselves are from all walks of life, black, white, men, women, old, young, rich and poor. All converged to exercise our right to freedom of assembly. All rights must be preserved by all or enjoyed by none.

The facts are as clear as the nose on your face. Good news continues to mount on the economy. Third quarter profits were up 16% from last year’s third quarter numbers and the stock market is having its best run in God knows when. Yep, things are really looking bleak these days, for the doomsayers, that is.
I mention all of these warts and flaws not because these four men didn’t live exceptional lives. Nothing could be further from the truth. No, I bring these facts forward because they were able to sign (and in Jefferson’s case, write) a document that declares the equality of all men, while owning slaves (save Adams) and attempting to eradicate the existence of the indigenous people (minus Adams and Franklin) whom they found on “their” land. I think it’s fair to say, that their interpretation of the constitution was as elastic as the times warranted. Which in some ways, makes them as jacked up as anyone else.
So you know how Republican Congressman and tea party darling, Mark Rubio (R-FL), used a riveting narrative involving his parents’ escape from communist Fidel Castro’s Cuba. Well, it was quite a riveting story. But there was just one tiny and insignificant problem with the whole story that makes Mark Rubio one of the worst people in the world: it didn’t actually involve Marco Rubio’s parents.
The motto of the Occupy Wall Street Movement is ‘We Are the 99 Per Cent.’ Well, yes, they are, but the celebs who come to lend their all-important ‘moral’ support are not; nor do they intend to change their lifestyles to accommodate their so-called sympathies to the movement.
Whatever else you may want to call the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement – and for the record I still don’t know quite what to make of it a month in – know this much: this truly grassroots movement is not phony, nor does it appear to be some left-wing counterpart to the Tea Party.
In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.
