When Republican lawmakers in Oklahoma jumped on the bandwagon to force welfare recipients to take a drug test, Democrats successfully added an amendment that also forces lawmakers to pee in a cup as well. But after being reviewed by Senate Republicans on Tuesday, the amendment was dropped.

A Republican lawmaker, like Republican lawmakers in many other states, introduced a bill requiring mandatory drug testing of welfare recipients. The bill was withdrawn after Democrats amended the bill to cover lawmakers as well as welfare recipients.

If you believe, as many Republicans seem to, that those out of work are simply not working hard enough to find a job, then you’re going to view the unemployed with contempt. And why would you agree to assist those you hold in contempt?
