Occupy Wall Street Infiltrated At Smithsonian

Howleyinside

As we watched the Tea Party grow and become somewhat less than civil in some cases, there is one thing that was never present from the left. There was not outright instance of subterfuge that included efforts to infiltrate the party, their gatherings, nor they leadership groups. Even despite cases of totally un-American behavior such as spitting upon a Congressman as he proceeded to the Capital Building for the Heath Care Bill vote, to town-hall plants to disrupt open communication between Democratic representatives and their constituents, there was no infiltration nor subterfuge.

Occupy Wall Street: A Liberal’s Quagmire

I don’t particularly care if the Occupy Wall Street protests spark a battle between the left and the right – we’re used to battles between the left and the right . . . except, this time, I’m not exactly sure how that battle will end. From what I’m seeing, and hearing, the movement’s singular lack of focus and leadership (though touted by the protesters as one of its charms) is likely to open a chasm into which Republicans can step and effectively apply their spin.

Yesterday, on the Laura Ingraham show, New York Rep. Peter King made an effort to delegitimize the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement that has been sweeping across the country. First, he called the protesters a bunch of ‘anarchists’ and a ‘ragtag mob.’ Then he warned Americans not to give the movement any legitimacy because the protests remind him of the liberal protests of the 1960s.

Last week, Marines joined ‘Occupy Wall Street’ to help fight for their country with their fellow countrymen against the greedy banks and corporations that support union busting and corporate personhood. Yesterday, in an interview on ABC, Republican Representative Paul Broun of Georgia dared to call the Wall Street protests ‘an attack upon freedom.’

The spontaneity of OWS interested me. Spontaneity can be good, sometimes, but I wanted these people protesting to have a goal or a concrete aim or at least a leader who could articulate one and the same – otherwise, they risked getting taken advantage of by people who had their own spurious agenda to promote.

Conservatives have made the claim that unemployed Americans only have themselves to blame for not having jobs, and now Herman Cain is joining the fray. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cain claimed that Occupy Wall Street is a distraction to help President Obama and said that the unemployed only have themselves to blame for being jobless and not rich.

Maybe It Was Us We Have Been Looking For

That is what this protest is all about. It’s about the big banks taking taxpayer bailouts then refusing to give loans to individuals and small businesses. It’s about major corporations taking taxpayer bailouts then giving themselves big bonuses. It’s about the mortgage and foreclosure crises, companies who are laying off thousands of employees to keep their profit-margins up, gas prices, oil industry profits, income inequality, climate change and corporate outsourcing, tax-avoidance, loopholes and greed.

Obviously, the protest caught million and the news media by surprise. Of course we know of the police violence during the second week of the protest and we saw 700 detained protesters over the weekend. The early surprises has evolved to larger numbers of protesters and degrees of increased organization are becoming obvious.
