So, this happened:
A lesson in irony.
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is actually proud of the fact it is distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to “Please Do Not Feed The Animals.” Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.
This ends today’s lesson.
-Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, GOP Candidate for District 3
While this heartless “lesson” post was quickly removed, and does not have much mainstream coverage yet, liberals are (once again) doing their part in making sure it’s recorded in Arizona’s embarrassing history. You can always count on Facebook! To be fair, Gabriela shouldn’t take all the
blame credit for this hatred of hungry folk – though you wouldn’t know it by reading her post (since she, y’know, didn’t acknowledge it!) this is a meme that’s already well-traveled on the interwebz.
You’d think conservatives would have realized that hating hungry kids isn’t the most popular position back when Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina Andre Bauer compared free school lunches – which, for some kids, is the only full meal they get to eat – to feeding stray animals, or when State Rep. Mary Franson of Minnesota made the same claim in March, but no! Seriously, where the hell are these peoples campaign advisers?
Gabriela Mercer boasts that she is “Pro-jobs, Pro-family, Pro-America“ and, even better, “Pro-Life“. In fact, she promises her district that she will “always vote to preserve life from conception to natural end“, which sounds super awesome! Except, life’s “natural end”, to Gabby, seems to be… birth. At least previous offenders had the good sense to dial back the offense when people were like “Yo. Why you hate hungry kids?!” and they realized they sounded like, well, assholes.
But not Pro-Life-Gabby! Oh no, she’s doubling down and doing Arizona proud! Just check out her newest Facebook status, and while you’re at it: Let’s ask her why she wants all fertilized eggs to be born, if she’s just going to let them starve. Seems kinda anti-life, if you ask me.
But what do I know? I’m just a pro-choice liberal heathen.
