I don’t suppose that anybody bothered to actually read the list? It’s not an “enemies” list, simply a list of people and organizations that have historically and demonstratively proclaimed their opposition to private gun ownership. If it weren’t so serious, it would be rather amusing how so many people on left-wing sites like this denounce “hatred” and demand “tolerance” – and then exhibit neither if the qualities themselves.

The article notes that Barbra Streisand is recognized on both “Opponents Lists” (the term used by the Nixon Administration and the NRA for their full lists). Jane Fonda also gets this distinction and Joanne Woodward gets credit, too, but she was listed as Joanne Newman on Nixon’s Second Enemies List. The New York Times and the Washington Post are also on both. As I’ve noted on the EnemiesList.info home page, this is an NRA PR blunder. We Americans tend to take pride in opposing powerful, self-righteous organizations.

I’d pruriently like to see the NRA and the ACLU (on the NRA’s list) fight it out. Both groups say they defend freedom and mostly point to a low-numbered amendment of the Constitution. I suspect the NRA would win the battle handily, but the ACLU would probably win the war.
