Christian Evangelist Pulls Out Of Gay-Friendly Bank, Unknowingly Joins Bank Sponsoring Pride Event (AUDIO)

Wells Fargo has recently started running a heartwarming ad that shows a lesbian couple learning sign language before adopting a deaf child. Many viewers have stated that the commercial has moved them to tears, and is a great step toward including LGBT relationships in mainstream media. Christian evangelist Franklin Graham, to no surprise, disagrees – so much that he announced that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will no longer keep its accounts with Wells Fargo.

In making this announcement, Graham predictably earned the full support of hate group Family Research Council. Graham spoke about the decision to leave Wells Fargo and join another North Carolina-based bank called BB&T with FRC’s Craig James on “Washington Watch” yesterday – but he left out one little important fact. BB&T is actually a HUGE supporter of gay rights!

Listen to Graham speak on “Washington Watch” below – his cluelessness is hilarious:

On top of the fact that BB&T scored an 80% with the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, the bank is sponsoring the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade this year! The bank has also hosted a same-sex couple’s wedding reception. It gets better – BB&T is the main sponsor of Miami Beach Gay Pride’s “Legacy Couples” program, which honors same-sex couples who have been in “committed relationships of 10 years or longer.”  You can’t get more pro-LGBT than BB&T – and Graham has unknowingly decided to make them his new bank.

Following the “offensive” Wells Fargo ad, Graham also called for Christians to stop doing business with organizations that “use shareholders’ advertising dollars to promote homosexuality” and promote “a godless lifestyle” such as Starbucks, Tiffany’s and Nike. Graham took to Facebook over the weekend to promote his bigot views, and tried to inspire his followers to take action as he was – to stop doing business with gay-friendly companies (does he not know that Facebook is a gay-friendly company as well?!).

He wrote:

“This is one way we as Christians can speak out – we have the power of choice. Let’s just stop doing business with those who promote sin and stand against Almighty God’s laws and His standards. Maybe if enough of us do this, it will get their attention.”

Graham sure is sending anti-gay Christians an excellent message with his recent announcement of choosing to bank with BB&T. As word got out about Graham’s uneducated decision, Facebook users took to his page to reveal the hilarity of the situation:

We can’t help but find this equally as funny. I’m sure Graham will be thrilled when he finds out the truth about his new chosen bank.

It’s fantastic that businesses like Wells Fargo and BB&T have the heart to include all of their customers – not just the straight ones. On Monday, Wells Fargo spokesperson Christina Kolbjornsen said that the company’s new ad serves as their unwavering support for the LGBT community. She said, ”

“At Wells Fargo, serving every customer is core to our vision and values. Diversity and inclusion are foundational to who we are as a company. Our advertising content reflects our company’s values and represents the diversity of the communities we serve.”

Here’s the beautiful ad that threw Graham into a panic:
