President ‘Zero F*cks Left’ Obama Takes HUGE Step For Nationwide LGBT Protections

History will look back on the Obama administration as one of the most progressive in history. His work towards granting, not only health care to all Americans, but nationwide LGBT equality has been utterly astonishing.

In continuing with this trend of making all LGBT individuals equal and protected under the law, President Obama has now put his FULL support behind the Equality Act, which will amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include protections against discrimination based upon sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said:

“It is now clear that the administration strongly supports the Equality Act.”

Also stating that the White House wants something that will balance “the bedrock principles of civil rights with the religious liberty that we hold dear in this country.”

The Equality Act still has a long road ahead of it before it has the chance of being passed, though, considering it must make it through the gauntlet of criticism in both the Republican led House and Senate. However, according to WaPo:

“President Obama’s support elevates to greater prominence the question of whether lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans need greater legal safeguards.”

And they do. It is currently legal to openly discriminate against LGBT employees and be fired on the basis of sexual orientation in 28 states, and 31 states if you include gender identity. That is just simply unacceptable and utterly reprehensible, especially considering we are in the year 2015.

Just a short time ago, an ordinance in Houston, TX that would’ve granted protections to LGBT individuals was rejected by voters.

We are allowing legalized discrimination over equality for all in the supposed land of the free. It is a travesty that this sort of legalized hate is allowed, and furthermore, that those who are elected to represent ALL citizens only choose to represent those who share their religious viewpoints.

Human Rights Campaign president Chad Hunter wrote in regards the presidents support:

“By endorsing the Equality Act, the White House sent a strong message that it’s time to put the politics of discrimination behind us once and for all. Now it’s time for Congress to act. Everyone should be able to live free from fear of discrimination and have a fair chance to earn a living and provide for their families, including people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.”

President Obama’s message of support is a clear indicator that this issue of discrimination against LGBT people is not about to fly away quietly into the night. It is an ever-present issue, and rest-assured, if a Democrat wins next November, they will follow through with making sure ALL citizens are treated equally under the law.

This move, in addition to President Obama being chosen to be the first sitting president to ever be on the cover of OUT magazine where it reads, “Our President: Ally, Hero, Icon” proves Obama’s continued dedication to the plight of gay individuals.

Thank you, Mr. President.
