Iowa House Republican Introduces Bill To Ban Abortion, Even in Cases Of Rape

Merely a day after the Virginia Legislature passed two anti-abortion bills, Iowa House Republicans decided to do the same on Wednesday.

Introduced by Republican State Rep. Kim Pearson, House File 2298 outlaws abortion entirely, even in cases of rape and when the life of the mother is in jeopardy.

In other words, if a woman is raped in Iowa, she will be forced by the state government to carry any pregnancy to full term or face life in prison. And if a pregnant woman needs an abortion to save her life, she can either face life in prison by asking her doctor to perform the life saving procedure or die on the hospital table.

This is yet another assault on women’s rights by the Republican Party, the party that claims to be the defenders of the people from government interfering into our personal lives. But by telling a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body, Republicans are the exact definition of an interfering government. If this bill is passed, a woman may not even be able to access contraceptives without being imprisoned, since Republicans also believe that birth control is a form of abortion. But if this bill passes and an innocent woman dies in a hospital bed because of Republican interference, the GOP will be guilty of nothing less than murder.
