On Friday, a gunman named Robert Lewis Dear killed three people and wounded nine others in a terrorist attack at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado. But “pro-life” conservatives are hailing him as a hero.
For five agonizing hours, Dear shot at police and barricaded himself inside the women’s clinic with hostages.
And as the terror unfolded, conservatives celebrated and cheered on the middle-aged white man. Most lamented that Dear hadn’t killed enough people to force the closure of the clinic while others said that people in the clinic deserved to die.
Tim Peacock of Peacock Panache took screenshots of the worst comments left by right-wingers on Breitbart.
That’s not all, either.
Jacob Geers of Thought Catalog gathered right-wing reactions on Twitter, and they are just as, if not more than, despicable.
These people have got to be some of the worst examples of humanity the Internet has to offer. Sadly, these kinds of reactions are not just coming from right-wing idiots on social media. They are also coming from right-wing idiots in Congress. As the standoff unfolded on live television, and as right-wingers made cruel comments from their mother’s basement, GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger was making an ass of himself on CNN by saying that anti-abortion fanatics have “legitimate concerns” about Planned Parenthood in what appears to be pro-active effort to defend the gunman in the event he turns out to be a right-wing terrorist targeting the women’s health organization.
“Regardless, if somebody is targeting Planned Parenthood, it’s not indicative of what folks that are opposed to what some of the practices Planned Parenthood commits. We saw these barbaric videos and that is something many of us have a legitimate concern about. That doesn’t mean we’re gonna take guns and walk into Planned Parenthood clinics.”
Kinzinger immediately drew fire on his own Facebook page over his shameful comments.
President Obama, meanwhile, proved to be the adult in the room by once again calling for taking action to prevent future acts of gun violence instead of offering useless prayers.
We don’t yet know what this particular gunman’s so-called motive was for shooting twelve people, or for terrorizing an entire community, when he opened fire with an assault weapon and took hostages at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado. What we do know is that he killed a cop in the line of duty, along with two of the citizens that police officer was trying to protect. We know that law enforcement saved lives, as so many of them do every day, all across America. And we know that more Americans and their families had fear forced upon them.
This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal. If we truly care about this — if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough.
In fact, the police officer who sacrificed his life trying to save the people inside the Planned Parenthood clinic held anti-abortion beliefs. Despite his stance on abortion, Officer Garrett Swasey gave his own life trying to save others from being killed by Dear.
That’s right, anti-abortion activists are not only celebrating the killing of a police officer, they are celebrating the killing of someone who held their beliefs.
And at least one of those anti-abortion fanatics is angry that Swasey’s fellow officers arrested the terrorist who killed him.
These people are surely and truly sick, and they perfectly demonstrate the hypocrisy of a right-wing that screams for killing Muslims after ISIS commits terrorist attacks while defending a white male for committing a terrorist attack in America against other Americans just because he killed people at an organization they disagree with. And they do all of this while claiming to be “Christians” and “pro-life.”
